About Megan Gredesky, LMFT

A therapist who understands the journey

Megan Gredesky, LMFT - Oakland therapist in rose garden

Hello! I'm Megan, and I'm passionate about helping people heal from trauma, navigate grief, and rediscover their authentic selves. For over 9 years, I've been supporting individuals, couples, and families in Oakland and the Bay Area through some of life's most challenging experiences.

What drew me to this work is the profound transformation I've witnessed when people access the right therapeutic tools. Traditional talk therapy has its place, but I've found that brain-based approaches like Brainspotting can reach the deeper wounds that words alone cannot touch.

My Approach to Therapy

I believe healing happens when we work with the whole person—mind, body, and spirit. That's why I integrate cutting-edge neuroscience-based therapies with action-oriented approaches and a deep respect for your unique journey.

My style is warm, empathetic, and direct. I create a safe space where you can be fully yourself while also gently challenging you to grow beyond the patterns that no longer serve you. I don't believe in one-size-fits-all therapy—I tailor my approach to what you need in each moment.

What Makes My Work Different

  • Focus on rapid, lasting change through neuroscience
  • Integration of brain-based and action-oriented methods
  • Specialized understanding of the creative process
  • Trauma-informed, body-centered approach
  • Validation of highly sensitive people and empaths

Core Values in My Practice

  • Compassion without enabling
  • Respect for your innate healing capacity
  • Cultural humility and inclusivity
  • Transparency and collaboration
  • Commitment to ongoing learning

Why I Chose Brain-Based Therapy

Early in my career, I noticed that some clients would make progress in traditional talk therapy, but others seemed stuck—unable to move forward despite their best efforts. This led me to explore neuroscience-based approaches like Brainspotting.

What I discovered transformed my practice. Brainspotting allows us to access and process trauma stored in the subcortical brain—the deeper regions where emotions and physical sensations live. This is where trauma gets "stuck," and where traditional talk therapy often can't reach.

The results speak for themselves. Clients who have been in talk therapy for years often experience profound shifts in just a few Brainspotting sessions. It's not magic—it's neuroscience working with the body's natural healing capacity.

Specialized Populations I Serve

Empaths & Highly Sensitive People

If you feel everything deeply, absorb others' emotions, or get overwhelmed by stimulation, I understand. I help highly sensitive people develop boundaries, manage overwhelm, and see their sensitivity as a strength rather than a burden.

Artists, Actors & Performers

With my MFA in Theatre, I have a unique understanding of the creative process and the vulnerabilities of performance. I work with actors, musicians, writers, and artists to overcome creative blocks, manage performance anxiety, and access flow states. My Expansion Brainspotting training is particularly powerful for enhancing artistic expression.

Individuals Facing Infertility

The fertility journey is filled with unique grief and trauma that many don't understand. I provide psychological assessments required for IVF and surrogacy, as well as ongoing support through the emotional roller coaster of treatments, losses, and difficult decisions.

Those Processing Grief & Trauma

Whether you're healing from childhood trauma, processing a recent loss, or dealing with complex PTSD, I bring specialized tools to help you move through—not just cope with—your pain. My integration of Brainspotting and the Grief Recovery Method offers both neurological and emotional healing.

Children & Adolescents

With training in play therapy and drama therapy, I work well with children and teens who may not have the words to express what they're experiencing. Creative and body-based approaches help young people process trauma and build resilience.

When I'm Not in Session

I believe therapists should practice what they preach. I prioritize my own healing and growth through continued education, personal therapy, and creative expression. I'm deeply connected to the arts and spend time at local Oakland theaters, enjoying the vibrant creative community in the Bay Area.

I'm committed to staying current with the latest research in neuroscience, trauma treatment, and somatic therapies. This ongoing learning allows me to bring the most effective tools to my clients.
